8.5' Antique August Jungblut Pool Table. Condition is Used. Local pickup only. Circa 1875-1880s. August Jungblut Born in Germany in 1843, August Jungblut came to America as a young man. He moved to San Francisco in 1870 and opened hisbilliard shop a year or 2 later. Hisfirst listing on page 60 of the 1872 Langley Directory shows a partner, John Renner. They are listed as Renner and Jungblut Billiard Table and Cabinet Makers at ten Tyler Street. This addressalong with numbers 12, 14 and 16 Tyler Street would remain as the offices andmanufacturing plant till the 1906 Earth Quake and Fire of 1906. The number twelve address was added in 1875 and the streetname Tyler, was changed to Golden Gate Avenue in 1880, although Jungblutcontinued to use old invoice listing Tyler instead of Golden Gate Avenue forseveral years. I have seen an early photographof the 10-12 Tyler Street factory and it was a 2 story wood framed building. It would have sat on Tyler at the Northeast corner of Market Street. This areawas destroyed by the 1906 Fire. During this early period August lived on Jessie Streetbetween four th and five th Streets and after 1880 at 114 Jones Street. Jungblut and Company competed very well against rivals Jacob Strahle, Philip Liesenfeld , John Drouilhat and of course Brunswick and Balke. Another partner, C. Trausen joined August sometime in the 1880's and August son Otto A. Jungbult is listed as the bookkeeper in1890.
