The RN in PACU demonstrates competence in recovering patients from local, general or regional anesthesia, monitors returned consciousness through medical, technological interventions and the nursing process.

PACU.
The Post Anesthesia Care Unit, formerly known as the Pre-Op, Post-Op, Recovery Room and is an area located near the operating room of hospitals, surgical same day and ambulatory care centers where patients are recovering from local, general or regional anesthesia.
The RN in PACU coordinates and delivers care that may include vital signs, cardiac, invasive arterial and central line monitoring as well as pain management, its medication and equipment.
The RN must be proficient using the nursing process, medical and technological interventions to monitor the patient until they are conscious.
In many facilities, Critical Care experience, BLS, ACLS, PALS is a requirement and in some, strong medical surgical skills, experience and preparation.
