San Mateo County (SMC) Health is seeking an experienced Equity Program Coordinator II-Public Health to join the Health Policy and Planning (HPP) team, a program within the Public Health, Policy, and Planning Division.
The Program Coordinator will be an integral part of HPP team's Health Equity efforts.
There is currently one regular vacancy in the Public Health, Policy, and Planning Division located in San Mateo, CA; but the position will travel/drive throughout the County to perform the duties of the job.
Some remote work will be available.
Health Policy and Planning's Mission:
To advance health equity, we engage, educate, and empower multi-sector partners and communities to collectively facilitate policy, systems, and environmental transformation.
The HPP program leads County Health's work to advance health and equity by using primary prevention and place-based strategies to create the conditions that enable all County of San Mateo residents to live healthy lives.
The program also collaborates with other SMC Health Divisions to promote health equity initiatives through the Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE) team.
The Equity Program Coordinator II will report to the Public Health Equity Officer/HPP Manager.
This position, with general supervision, will coordinate and facilitative meetings of the Health GARE team.
Health GARE meetings include two monthly GARE meetings, a monthly Leadership meeting comprised of committee chairs, meetings of the five committees, and an annual strategic planning retreat.
In addition, the position will support equity communication efforts to highlight progress made to address equity priorities.
Responsibilities include oversight of meeting coordination and facilitation, development of meeting materials, tracking meeting participation and membership recruitment, and assistance with Health GARE goal development and progress tracking.
The Equity Program Coordinator will help modify equity tools and programs developed by SMC Health for applicable use by other county departments as well as assist in the piloting of tools and process improvements (for example, the Community Engagement Toolkit and the Equity Impact Assessment).
The Equity Program Coordinator will also support the continuous review and update of the GARE SharePoint and County Equity Hub sites content.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Overseeing meeting facilitation of the Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE) workgroup and committees for San Mateo County Health (Health GARE).
Chairing or co-chairing one of the Countywide Core Equity Team committees.
Acting as a point of contact for equity efforts between Health GARE, the Health Executive Council (HEC), and the countywide Core Equity Team.
Leading the maintenance and coordination of updates to the content and format of the Health GARE SharePoint site and assisting in the review of the County Equity Resource Hub for content and format update recommendations.
Supporting the development and implementation of a strategy to share progress of the Health Racial Equity Action Plan (REAP) and the countywide Racial and Social Equity Action Plan (RSEAP) to highlight equity progress across the county.
Supporting the logistics and planning of the Race, Equity, and Health (REH) foundational trainings and modules.
Support the piloting the countywide Community Engagement Toolkit and the Equity Impact Assessment tools in partnership with Health department partners with support for County equity team staff.
Supporting the structure and next steps of the countywide Staff Affinity Groups to create a sense of belonging and advance inclusion within the County.
Assist in the development and updating of Health GARE policies, procedures, and other materials.
Supporting the tracking and reporting of REAP activities.
Coordinating the annual GARE strategic planning retreat.
Maintenance of the Health GARE membership and email distribution list.
The ideal candidate will be:
Experienced in providing administrative support to SMC Health and countywide equity programs, initiatives, and policies.
Passionate about advancing equity and working with communities of greatest need in San Mateo County.
Understanding of the dynamics of under-resourced communities and community-level determinants of health.
Comfortable working in a dynamic and fluid environment.
Skilled in coordinating efforts of multiple people/groups to develop policies, protocols, action plans, etc.
Experienced in providing technical assistance and consultation for protocol or policy development and updates.
Experienced in cultivating partnerships to advance health equity and reach equitable and mutual long-term goals.
Experienced in facilitating meetings and hosting collaboratives with a diverse group of members from wide-ranging backgrounds and experience.
Experience in conducting quantitative and qualitative research to support protocol and policy development.
Proficient in meeting oversight, including agenda development, note taking, managing calendars, etc.
Experience in using virtual meeting platforms and tools (e.
g.
, Teams, Zoom, Mentimeter, Jamboard, Padlet, etc.
).
Excellent with written and oral communication skills.
Skilled in the ability to manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines.
Skilled in the ability to work independently toward optimal work outcomes.

Bachelor's degree in public or business administration, management or a related field and four years of professional level analytical and administrative experience in a community-related setting.
