San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) is seeking a highly-qualified candidate for theSocial Work Supervisor position.
The position will be located at the San Mateo Medical Center, which includes Acute Care, Long Term Care, Psychiatric, Intensive Care Units, and Emergency Department.
The current Regular, Full-Timevacancy is within the Resource Management Department and will supervise, plan, assign, review, and evaluate the work of the Social Worker staff.
The ideal candidate will have a Master's Degree in Social Work or a related field plus three to five years of experience performing a full range of professional social worker duties in a Health Care setting.
The candidate will display strong leadership skills, knowledge of community resources (e.
g.
facilities serving social, mental health, medical, educational and legal needs, etc.
) and services provided; knowledge of legal basis for departmental programs and requirements; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; ability to interpret complex written material; supervisory ability.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) preferred, but not required.

Examples Of DutiesDuties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Plan, assign, review and evaluate the work of assigned social service personnel.
Assist subordinates in developing and improving social work or child care skills.
Hold individual and group conferences with assigned staff to discuss general policies, rules, regulations, or laws relating to social welfare programs.
Hold individual conferences with staff to discuss specific problems of assigned clients and make suggestions for improved work performance on difficult clients.
Make decisions on methodologies and procedures for solving specific problems in accordance with sound casework child care and departmental policy.
Review case summaries, service and case plans.
Coordinate the workload of the unit with other departmental units providing related services.
Evaluate employee performance.
Advise subordinate staff on policy and procedures.
Meet with higher level management on departmental policies, practices, and procedures.
Confer with and provide information to other public and private agencies interested in the programs and services of the department.
Train new workers in child care techniques.
Conduct and prepare research studies.
Prepare reports and correspondence.
Provide services in the most difficult cases or when unit workload is heavy.
Coordinate shelter care program with other agencies.
Supervise volunteers in Shelter Care Program.
Perform related duties as assigned.
QualificationsKnowledge of Principles, methods and techniques of social work.
Principles of social casework and child care supervision.
Scope and nature of current problems in the field of social work or child protection services.
Laws, rules, regulations, and procedures governing the operation of public social service agencies and the variety of service programs.
Principles of individual and group behavior and their application to cases.
Community organizations and resources.
Functions of social welfare agencies.
Skill/Ability to:
Plan and implement a residential program.
Teach the concepts and methods involved in the practice of social casework and/or residential child care.
Plan, organize, supervise and evaluate the work of assigned staff.
Provide direction in the development and implementation of treatment plans for clients.
Effectively interpret departmental policies, rules and regulations.
Prepare and present clear and concise oral and written reports.
Maintain effective, cooperative and understanding work relationships with clients from a variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds, representatives of other units and agencies, and others contacted during the course of work.
Education and ExperienceAny combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.

Two years of experience performing a full range of professional social worker duties.

Current County of San Mateo and County of San Mateo Superior Court of California employees with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in a classified regular, probationary, Confidential and Management extra-help/limited term, and SEIU or AFSCME represented extra help/limited term positions prior to the final filing date will receive five points added to their final passing score on this examination.

The final filing date will beposted 5 days in advance in the San Mateo County Human Resources Department.
The examination process will consist of an application screening (pass/fail) based on the candidate's application and responses to the supplemental questions.
Candidates who pass the application screening will be invited to a panel interview (weight:
100%).
Depending on the number of applicants, an application appraisal of education and experience may be used in place of other examinations, or further evaluation of work experience may be conducted to group applicants by level of qualification.
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination.
