9 Full-time 2 hours ago Full Job Description The Superior Court of California, County of San Mateo, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Information Technology Technician - Court.
Under general supervision, provides a full range of moderately complex technical support to department information systems in two or more of the following general areas:
desktop support, production or server support and/or applications support.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is the entry level to the departmental automation and information technology job series.
It is a journey-level multi-disciplinary technical support job classification.
Incumbents independently perform a wide range of routine and reoccurring technical support services for an assigned department and identify and enlist additional resources to handle more complex issues or problems.
User support duties typically involve operations issues and transactions such as printer malfunctions, system access, password reset, account log-off, error messages and removing viruses and malware.
Desktop support duties typically include routine installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and software support for department desktop workstations.
Production and/or server support duties typically include installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and production support for department servers and mid-range computers including hardware, operating system software and communication protocols.
Application support duties typically include supporting the operation, maintenance, and upgrading of department-specific applications, the provision of user support and training, and user group management.
This classification is distinguished from the Senior Information Technology Technician as incumbents serve as the first point of contact for the provision of routine technical support to system users while the latter provides advanced technical support for departmental systems and users; this classification may serve as technical lead on routine equipment installation projects; and/or may guide the work of other technical support staff in a lead capacity.
Examples Of Duties Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Maintain inventory of addresses, laptops, workstations, servers and peripheral equipment; prepare decommissioned workstations for surplus pickup and/or storage; order equipment and supplies as required.
Write user operating instructions for departmental applications and equipment, present training, documentation and other materials to user groups and individuals.
Participate in departmental systems planning activities.
Supporting courtroom audio and visual technologies Perform related duties as assigned.
User Support Serve as technical resource and primary point of contact for departmental system users; provide desktop and end-user support by remote session, telephone, email or in person, including visits to remote sites.
Troubleshoot and assist users in solving operational hardware and software application problems; evaluate problem severity and resolve or escalate to appropriate personnel or vendor for resolution.
Execute tests of new hardware and software and support beta testing of new fields and screens in the system.
Set-up employee workstations and make equipment adjustments as needed.
Support the department's use of audio-visual equipment including laptops, televisions, and projectors; set-up and provide technical support to presentations.
Assist with the production and editing of multi-media including recordings, presentation and videos; setup web cast and video conference meetings; duties include media conversion, editing backup and storage of analog and digital data.
Desktop Support Install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot and upgrade department computers and peripheral equipment.
Install and replace internal computer components such as memory, hard drives, sound devices, optical drives, CD ROM drives and communications cards.
Maintains and establishes user profiles for PC deployment.
Manage vendors for PC and peripheral support and part replacement Production/Server Support Assist with the routine installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting and upgrading of servers, mid-range computers, and related equipment at local and remote sites.
Perform routine system administration functions according to desktop security policies, which include monitoring and adding applications, users and devices, modifying user profiles, re-setting passwords and performing file maintenance.
Monitor departmental equipment and systems; review daily problem reports and determine system technical problems.
Application Support Perform routine data entry and database maintenance, which includes entering or uploading data to data bases, maintaining tables, and developing queries.
Provide front-line support for court enterprises system and assess when to engage with the next level of support.
Qualifications Knowledge of:
Methods and techniques used in troubleshooting computer hardware and software problems.
Operational characteristics of various hardware platforms, peripheral equipment and desktop applications including electronic mail systems, spreadsheets, word processing database, presentation graphics, client server applications, communication protocols and intranet/internet.
Record keeping and filing principles and practices.
Job planning and prioritizing techniques.
For the Desktop support area Computer networks and systems, their operation, support, development and migration.
Computer hardware and software products in use on the department and across the industry.
For the Server/Production support area Server and mid-range computer hardware and software in use in the department and related communications systems.
For the Application support area Operations, purposes, and functions of the application being supported.
Information needs and requirements of the systems users.
Skill/Ability to:
Ability to listen and understand problems, before attempting to find a solution.
Install and support hardware and software used by the department.
Analyze operational and systems problems, evaluate alternatives and reach sound conclusions.
Provide technical support to multiple users on hardware and software solutions.

Prepare clear, concise and accurate documentation, instructions, correspondence and other written materials.
Develop and present comprehensive training material for the appropriate area.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with both technical and non-technical personnel.
Analyze user requirements and recommend appropriate data automation products.
Education and
Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities are qualifying.
A typical way to qualify is possession of a high school diploma plus technical certification from an accredited college in a specified area with coursework in computer science, information systems, or closely related field; plus one year of full-time experience successfully performing information systems equipment installation, system support, and/or user support duties.
Physical Requirements:
Stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, walks, sits and reaches by extending hands and arms in any direction on a consistent and daily basis.
Communicates verbally by listening and talking on a consistent and daily basis.
Uses finger dexterity to pick, pinch and type; grasps objects with fingers and palms; and perceives attributes of objects by touch on a consistent and daily basis.
Occasionally uses upper extremities to exert force to push and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds or more; lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
